It seems unlikely to link getting a good night’s sleep as the foundation to overall good health, but it’s true. We spend one-third of our lives asleep, so it’s vital to find out the nature of the sleep problem and explore ways to deal with it. At the Saline Memorial Sleep Disorders Center’s, our mission is to help you get a good night’s sleep. Our sleep specialists provide evaluations and treatment options for patients 12 years of age and older. Sleep Disorders come in many forms, and have a variety of effects on sleep. Some common disorders are: Snoring, Sleep Apnea, Restless Legs Syndrome, Excessive Daytime Sleepiness, Narcolepsy or Insomnia.
One out of every three American suffers from a sleep disorder. If left untreated, sleep disorders can develop into more severe health issues, which may include heart problems, difficulty concentrating, irritability and pain sensitivity. Under the leadership and expertise of our Board Certified Sleep Specialists, SMH offers a comprehensive approach to the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders.
Home Sleep Testing
You may prefer, and some insurance may require you to perform, a Home Sleep Test. This offers an alternative to lab based testing, although it only tests for sleep apnea. You pick up the device from the Sleep Center, sleep in your bed while it records your breathing and oxygen level through the night, and return it for results and physician interpretation. Should you need treatment for sleep apnea such as a CPAP machine, you may have a lab based test with insurance approval. The Saline Memorial Sleep Disorders Center is located in a separate building adjacent to the main hospital. This allows for a quiet and relaxing atmosphere to ensure the most positive experience possible, and our rooms are designed to make you feel at home.
The Saline Health System Sleep Disorders Center is an American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) accredited Sleep Center. To meet the requirements for AASM accreditation, a Sleep Center must meet a number of strict standards that hold those Centers to a higher level of patient care, safety and quality. The American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) is the leading professional society for the sleep specialists who treat snoring, obstructive sleep apnea and other sleep disorders affecting about 70 million Americans.
