Saline Memorial Behavioral Health is a psychiatric inpatient program that effectively treats the unique emotional and health-related needs encountered by adults of all ages. Saline Memorial Behavioral Health is dedicated to improving the quality of life for patients allowing them to remain active and vital with their families and in their community.

We are conveniently located on the 6th floor of Saline Memorial Hospital. There are two separate units dedicated to treating adults of all ages: Adult Unit (ages 18 to 55) and Generations Unit (ages 55 and up).

The staff recognizes the specialized needs of adults whose mental health issues are often complicated by co-existing medical, social and economic factors. Our team will develop a comprehensive care plan tailored to the patient’s individual needs. This interdisciplinary team includes:

• Certified Recreational Therapist
• Certified Nursing Assistants

GENERATIONS OLDER ADULT UNIT

The Generations Unit is a 19-bed licensed unit where we recognize the different needs of older adults and the issues related to aging. These needs are addressed through an individually tailored treatment plan that will offer a variety of daily programs and activities including:
• Group counseling
• Individual therapy
• Medication management
• Music groups
• Recreational activities
• Discharge planning
• Continued Care Planning

Common reasons for admission to the Generations Unit include:
• Anxiety
• Aggression
• Confusion/Disorientation
• Depression
• Fear
• Paranoia
• Hallucinations
• Delusions
• Memory loss
• Mood swings
• Sleep disturbances
• Social withdrawal
• Suicidal thoughts
• Wandering

ADULT UNIT

The Adult Unit at Saline Memorial Hospital is a secure, 10-bed, licensed unit that provides acute inpatient hospitalization in a safe, therapeutic environment for patients who cannot be treated safely on an outpatient basis. Treatment in this program is provided by a team of licensed professionals experienced in the assessment and treatment of adults with psychiatric illnesses. This team provides specialized services under the direction of the attending psychiatrist.

Common reasons for admission to the Adult Inpatient Unit include:
• Suicidal thoughts or attempts
• Excessive aggression or agitation
• Depression
• Anxiety and panic disorders
• Poor impulse control
• Delusions/hallucinations
• Agitation and restlessness
• Sleeping or eating disturbances
• Self-neglect/Self-harm
• Behaviors that impede daily living
• Obsessive-compulsive symptoms

Admissions are accepted 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Referrals may be made by physicians, mental health professionals, social workers, social service agencies, family members or friends. Admission decisions are made by a mental health medical provider.
