Education and learning are an essential part of the culture
at Saline Memorial Hospital. SMH coworkers are constantly
adapting to new trend in healthcare in order to respond to
changes in environment and to our community’s growth.
The SMH Education Department is focused on coworker education
as well as community education. We offer a variety of
educational opportunities to the public which include: Sibling
classes for soon-to-be big brothers and sisters, Breastfeeding
classes, Pre-natal classes and Diabetes education.
SMH Coworkers are continually learning new healthcare
initiatives to improve patient care. For convenience, many of
the educational classes are available for coworkers on the SMH
campus. A few of the classes offered for coworkers include:
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, Neonatal Resuscitation,
CPR, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support.
SMH hosts annual health fairs and seminars which are free to
the public. These fairs include information on healthy living,
diabetes, heart health and more. At each health fair, SMH
coworkers offer free blood pressure and glucose screenings to
participants. Coworkers also provide education about the
importance of screening for continued health.
In the summer months, our Pediatric Department offers a baby
sitter’s program for boys and girls ages 11 to 13 interested
in learning to care for young children. All medical
information is taught by members of our nursing staff. During
this course, students get hands-on practice in basic
lifesaving techniques so they are prepared if a crisis were to
occur.
