SMH ends talks of partnership

Saline Memorial Hospital’s Board of Trustees voted last night to terminate their letter of intent for a partnership with Capella Healthcare.

“In view of our improving financial performance, it was felt that continuing to remain independent at this time was a good option for our hospital,” said CEO Bob Trautman.  “This was a very difficult decision and is in no way a reflection on Capella.  In fact, we’ve been pleased with all we’ve learned about Capella during this period of due diligence research.  And, we are both going to remain open for any potential future discussions about partnerships. We appreciate our Board’s thoughtful consideration of this decision as well as the patience of our employees and medical staff throughout this period of research.”

Andy Slusser, EVP, Chief Development Officer for Capella, said, “While we were disappointed to learn of the Board’s decision, we are pleased that they remain open to potential future discussions.  We have certainly enjoyed meeting their staff members, physicians and Board leaders over the past few months.  Saline Memorial is an outstanding organization and we wish them the very best.”
